After bunch of rumors and talks, YouTube has officially unveiled its latest play for dominating the entertainment industry — a live TV streaming service. A disheartening news for Cable operators though Like Barney would say…

Unlike the free streaming on YouTube, the idea of getting in the live streaming has totally changed the game. It has promised to deliver live local TV channels like ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC as well as cable stalwarts like ESPN, the Disney Channel, Fox News and Bravo.

What comes along with YouTube TV

Well, for starters…

Some major channels are still missing from YouTube TV’s lineup, yet available on other services, include AMC, CNN, Comedy Central, Discovery, Food Network, MTV and TNT, among many others. We may expect them to arrive along with other subscription plans.

YouTube TV also includes an unlimited cloud DVR storage, so you can add any series or sports team to your favorites and it’ll save all of them for you.

In addition to this, you can also add on ‘Showtimes’ for an additional fee. You can also watch the local affiliates of your city. According to Bloomberg, YouTube had been talking with all of the major networks to roll up content.

Comes at a Price, of course!

The cost? $35 per month only. And one added delight too, the subscription can be cancelled at any point of time. Too much too avail for a cable networking service. Isn’t? The new service is expected to be available later this spring to customers in the US and lets you add up to six users access content whenever they want.

YouTube Live TV Mobile App

It is also being heard by the sources that YouTube will be available on Android and iOS in the upcoming months. The mobile app will primly focus on three main sections: live, library and home.

  • Live: The live tab shows everything currently being broadcast organized by network.
  • Library: It will feature all the shows you’ve recorded; lets you view everything scheduled to be recorded on your DVR.
  • Home: The Home tab will be full of things you’ve watched recently, recommendations based on what you watch, or what you are recently watching or love to watch in future and so on.

With YouTube today bringing even more attention to the streaming TV market, the question now is whether this will be a tipping point for rivals or not.
