AMAZON TRIES TO QUELL ‘FIRE’ DISASTER WITH ICE
After their ‘Fire’ series of smartphones and tabs fail to grab attention, Amazon announce its successor named ‘Ice’.
AMAZON SMARTPHONE, REALLY?
Although Amazon did their best to promote their flagship series of smart devices as much as possible, ‘Fire’ didn’t really have the same spark as its namesake. The series was aimed at entry-level smartphone market and despite it’s humble price tag, couldn’t really create the buzz it was expected to. Several issues such as poor software and performance degradation made it impossible for ‘Fire’ to even lay a smudge on industry giants.
SO WHAT’S DIFFERENT WITH ‘ICE’ ?
Despite not much official news being circulated regarding the new release, Ice is supposed to receive unaltered versions of Android Nougat. While older model didn’t supposed highly popular applications such as Gmail and Google Assistant, the new phone will have all these Google apps pre-installed.
The biggest change however, is the addition of Amazon’s acclaimed AI Assistant ‘Alexa’, that was strangely absent from ‘Fire’ models. This would certainly bring ‘Ice’ in tandem with major market players such as Google, Microsoft and Apple.
The above changes and features would certainly ensure that ‘Ice’ will be much cooler than it’s predecessor could ever be. Nevertheless, we still have our doubts about its pricing that would determine its performance in the market. According to various sources, Ice’s screen size is expected to be somewhere between 5.2 and 5.5 inches, resulting in a moderately sized smartphone. Other specifications such as 2 GB RAM and 16GB internal space with a 13-megapixel rear camera with rear-mounted fingerprint scanner are also rumored to be on this phone.
The price however, is expected to be around USD 93, that is certainly attractive to make it a bestseller.
