SAMSUNG ANNOUNCES BIXBY POWERED SMARTSPEAKER
AI-powered smart speakers’ rising popularity finally forces South Korean tech giant Samsung to announce their own model, powered by Bixby digital assistant.
WHAT’S SO NEW ABOUT THIS?
Last week we saw Apple release their Siri-powered smartspeaker ‘HomePod’. With brands such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon already having their smart speakers in the market, most fans wondered about what Samsung thinks about this new technology. But according to the latest patents filed by the South Korean tech brand, a new Bixby-assisted smart speaker might be in works.
This patent is related to an ‘audio device’ and suggested a tripod-like design with the speaker mounted on top. This might certainly worry the likes of Apple and Microsoft, who are still fresh in this market and need to compete with pioneers Google and Amazon.
BUT WHY SO LATE, SAMSUNG?
With so many giants already in the market, Samsung’s upcoming speaker certainly sounds like a late entry. And as there’s no official release date yet, we can only hope it arrives by late 2017, else they might face even severe competition and a possible market saturation.
Moreover, despite Galaxy S8’s success, users have several qualms related to the Bixby personal assistant. This might become an eventual thorn in Samsung’s side if they don’t address these issues before thinking of a smart speaker device.
TESLA SET TO ELECTRIFY CONVENTIONAL ROAD TRANSPORTATION WITH NEW SEMI-TRUCK
Tesla CEO, Mr. Elon Musk shared several details on an electric powered semi-truck along with possible release date.
AN ELECTRIC POWERED SEMI-TRUCK? REALLY?
Although electric powered automobiles have already made huge waves when it comes to passenger vehicles, commercial sector is still reliant on diesel or gasoline powered trucks. But according to Mr. Elon Musk, Tesla Inc. is currently working on an all-electric traindrive that would power a semi-truck prototype. The truck will be built on a brand new platform that hasn’t been utilized by any other Tesla brand vehicle.
WHEN WILL IT BE REVEALED?
There have been several speculations regarding Tesla’s new venture and its market viability. Although many experts suggest that this isn’t possible, Mr. Musk was quite enthusiastic and confident when it came to presenting the possibilities of this project.
Mr. Musk even added “A lot of people don’t think you can do a heavy-duty, long-range truck that’s electric, but we’re confident that this can be done, so we’ll be showing off a working prototype … at the end of September”. This clearly indicates that they’re serious about this claim.
WHAT GOOD WILL IT BRING?
According to various statistics, US Transportation sector alone accounts for more than 20% of the total greenhouse gas emissions each year. This figure is supposed to rise in the future and will become the major source of such gases by 2030. In such a grim future ahead of us, Tesla’s electric revolution might certainly make a remarkable, if not huge difference in overall emissions.
Mr. Musk also revealed that they already have a group of potential buyers for this technology that ensures its initial market success. Nevertheless, we can only wait before the first prototype is displayed in September.
