ALEXA NOW ON HTC U11 AND IT’S IMPRESSIVE
Alexa’s second try at Smartphone integration finally delivers what’s expected from it.
IS IT BETTER THAN SIRI?
It is obvious that most users might want to compare Amazon Alexa digital assistant with Apple’s Siri. While they many might not think much about Alexa’s abilities on a smartphone platform due to several issues with Huawei Mate 9. However, developers have been able to finally present a decent smartphone version of Amazon’s AI assistant and it’s exactly like how AI assistants should work. In fact, it works quite similar to Echo devices and boasts of more than 15000 tasks.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS?
AI assistants on smart devices have certainly ushered a new era of communications technology and is considered a major step for ‘Internet of Things’ technologies. HTC U11 presents a near perfect smartphone version of Amazon’s mighty digital assistant. Users just have to say ‘Alexa’ to wake the phone up. They can also use direct keywords for online searches along with various other tasks such as answer or make phone calls, play music, video streaming and a wide variety of other skills. This makes the U11 pretty much ‘hands-free’
WHAT ABOUT FUTURE APPEARANCES?
With a near-perfect integration, Alexa has certainly shown a lot of promise and users might want to use it on other devices. We already have news about Motorola’s plans with Alexa on their future devices, which might become a major stepping stone for AI assistants in smartphones. But since we’re not sure about what phone Motorola will present, we’ll certainly keep our fingers crossed till any announcements are made.
SIRI HAS STIFF COMPETITION FROM ALEXA AND CORTANA
Alexa and Cortana becoming popular as statistics show lower number of Siri users as compared to last year.
WHAT WENT SOUTH FOR SIRI?
Despite of being the most popular voice-controlled digital assistant for smartphones, Apple’s Siri has seen a sharp decline in users in the past 1 year. Sitting currently at 41.4 million users, this is a 15 percent decline as compared to 48.7 million users in 2016. However, Apple surely doesn’t seem worried as they are far ahead of competition when it comes to the most number of users worldwide. Most experts have explained this drop to be caused by the popularity of home assistant devices such as as Amazone Alexa, and Google Home etc.
WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?
While Apple inc. doesn’t need to worry about their user base at the moment, the rising sales of Echo and Google Home devices could change that within a year. As we’ve already seen how more and more smartphone companies are getting interested in AI assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant, we can expect a further plummet in the future.
Since digital voice assistants are no longer the pinnacle of smartphone technology, this decrease in user base wouldn’t hurt much as there are far bigger things in motion.
