QUOTE OF THE DAY
“By far the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” ~ Eliezer Yudkowsky (Co-Founder, Machine Intelligence Research Institute)
GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC AND YOUTUBE RED WILL HAVE A SINGLE SUBSCRIPTION
Youtube Red might be merged with Google Play Music to create a brand new media streaming app.
WHAT IS YOUTUBE RED?
No, we’re definitely not talking about RedTube or similar websites, but Youtube’s very own paid version that provides ad-free content, offline play and playing music on locked devices. It also features Netflix-like original shows and movies that are only accessible to subscribed users. Although this service was initially launched as a music streaming app, but focus soon shifted to video content. However, according to the latest news it will now be able to stream music from Google Play Music.
WHO CONFIRMED THIS MERGER?
This news was actually first announced by head of YouTube Music, Mr. Lyor Cohen who said “The important thing is combining YouTube Red and Google Play Music, and having one offering”. Moreover, Google also combined music teams from Google Play and YouTube earlier this year, signaling the inevitability of this news. Nevertheless, we still do not have any confirmation about whether both apps will be merged into one. Currently, officials have only stressed on creating a single subscription service for both apps.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
Also, a lot of users have complained of YouTube Red’s overly complicated interface and it only seems logical on Google’s part to combine both apps into one. It wouldn’t be really fruitful for Google to have two different apps for streaming music. Therefore, most tech experts are suggesting a more homogenous merger that provides a single app for both music and video streaming.
