QUOTE OF THE DAY
Science, already oppressive with its shocking revelations, will perhaps be the ultimate exterminator of our human species – if separate species we be – for its reserve of unguessed horrors could never be borne by mortal brains if loosed upon the world. ~ H. P. Lovecraft (Author)
HUAWEI MIGHT REPLACE APPLE AS THE SECOND LARGEST SMARTPHONE MANUFACTURER
With more than 10 percent rise in sales, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer aims to become ‘numero uno’ by 2021.
HOW IS HUAWEI THAT FAMOUS?
It might be a hard pill to swallow, but not a lot of American or European smartphone users might not know about the massive smartphone market in China. While Samsung and Apple continue to rule the market with an iron fist, there is a player that could out-rival them. Chinese manufacturer has already become the largest in China by shipping a whopping 38 million smartphone units. This is a major improvement compared to 32 million shipments from last quarter.
WHY DOES APPLE HAVE TO WORRY?
While sales in China shouldn’t ideally affect global figures, but despite of that Huawei’s 38 million units are dangerously close to Apple’s 41 million. The Chinese brand has already usurped the largest manufacturer throne from the likes of Xiaomi and Oppo and hopes to surpass its peers by 2021. Apple sales in China have also taken a toll as they only registered a 2% increase, while Huawei expanded its market share by 20%.
CAN HUAWEI BECOME #1?
According to an official statement by Huawei chief Mr. Richard Yu, “We want to be the number-one smartphone-maker in the world. It’s a long-distance race, and we have the patience.” These figures and speeches sure sound impressive, but in reality it would be extremely tough to beat Samsung’s 80 million plus shipments figure.
Also, a lot of market experts are doubtful of Huawei’s popularity as a global brand as compared to Apple and Samsung. Moreover, with the launch of the 10th Anniversary iPhone, these figures might look completely different.
A BRAND NEW GOOGLE EARTH APP NOW ON iOS
After Android and Desktop, improved Google Earth app finally hits iOS.
WHAT’S SO NEW ABOUT IT?
Google Earth’s improved version was revealed back in April, but unfortunately it wasn’t available for iPhone or iOS users back then. New updates included higher detail on 3rd maps along with ‘postcard’ feature that allows users to create and share digital postcards with renders from Google earth. Moreover, there’s also a special 360-degree view known as ‘Voyager Mode’ that allows users to take virtual tours of various exotic locations across the globe.
ANY SPECIAL FEATURES FOR APPLE USERS?
While there are no iOS only features, Google has introduced a brand new ‘Knowledge Cards” features that lets you share and view various information about a place. It also features the good old ‘Im feeling lucky’ button for random tours across any location on the globe. Although they might be a little late in introducing Google Earth on iOS, it is not just limited to 32-bit devices anymore and that makes it perfect for Apple users.
