QUOTE OF THE DAY
“The need for control always comes from someone that has lost it.” ~ Shannon L. Alder
WAYBACK MACHINE BLOCKED WITHOUT REASON IN INDIA
After ‘Adult Content Sites’, Indian authorities block Wayback Machine, the Internet Archival service. No reason has been cited for the same.
WHAT IS WAYBACK MACHINE?
Some of you might already know, Internet Archives or Wayback Machine is a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, US that has archived the internet for almost 21 years. The website is used heavily by professionals across the globe and also by authorities investigating any cases of plagiarism or copyright claims. Banning this service means it would be easy for people to lie on the Internet without getting caught.
This ban has been met with a severe backlash as publishers are worried about quality control and plagiarized content in absence of a reliable database to cross check.
Internet sure isn’t the informational playground as it used to be in it’s glory days. This is pretty evident by the several bans and restrictions beings imposed by governments across the globe. After China took total control over public and private internet services, it’s now India that seems to follow a similar path. While several websites related to pornography, file hosting and torrents are already blocked in the South Asian subcontinent; This time it’s the Internet Archives that has been inexplicably banned.
WHAT DO AUTHORITIES SAY?
Unfortunately, Indian authorities have kept their lips sealed on any queries related to this ban and haven’t issued any public statement. According to a spokesperson from Internet Archive, they have already questioned Indian Department of Telecommunications regarding this ban. Sadly, all their pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears. The spokesperson also expressed their disappointment with the Indian authorities and said “”Obviously, we are disappointed and concerned by this situation and are very eager to understand why it’s happening and see full access restored to archive.org.”
SPOTIFY NOW COMES TO XBOX ONE
The viral music streaming service now comes to Microsoft Xbox One. Available for both free and premium users.
WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL?
Music streaming apps aren’t anything new, but might surely deliver something extraordinary when coupled with a gaming console. According to Mr Mikael Ericsson who is the Product Director at Spotify “Music continues to be essential when creating the ultimate gaming experience.” He then added “Starting today, we’re really excited to offer Xbox One gamers the ability to choose their own unique soundtrack while enjoying their favorite games.”
Although our question still remains largely unanswered as this service was available on the Playstation 4 since it’s launch in 2015. And whether or not will it provide Microsoft with a competitive edge over Sony is also open to debate.
ANY SPECIAL FEATURES?
Putting Spotify inside a gaming console can be really fun. It allows players to control and choose their favorite music without putting gameplay on hold. Moreover, users can also choose pre-created playlists that enhance gaming experience. Also, this app can also be synced with other devices such as computers, tablets and laptops through Spotify Connect.
