 THE STORY

WAIT, MICROSOFT AND SAMSUNG WORKING TOGETHER?

Microsoft has dominated the desktop computer world as it allows various manufacturers to make Windows computer. With the same strategy, they have envisioned to rule the market of mixed reality with HoloLens headset tech, a device which can handle both augmented reality and virtual reality at least on paper.

To make this happen, Microsoft has allowed other manufacturers to use the technology and build the headset. With Dell, Acer, Lenovo, and HP, Samsung has also joined the league. Samsung with Microsoft is trying to shape this new unformed world of technology.

WHAT WOULD BE THE STRATEGY?

Both Microsoft and Samsung are giants in their own league. While Microsoft still continues to be extremely popular, Samsung currently rules the consumer electronics market with an iron fist. While the competitors are trying their best to make the best AR or VR headset, Microsoft and Samsung have joined hands to outsmart all by combining both AR and VR technology.

Alanna Cotton, Vice President and General Manager of Samsung Electronics America said, “ the aim was to create a high-performing headset that’s easy to set up and can transport people to the incredible world of virtual reality. We’re excited to partner with Microsoft to shape the future of virtual reality.”

WHEN CAN WE EXPECT IT?

The Setup with your computer is automatic following the  Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, set to release on 17th October 2017. Microsoft have already shown their gaming prowess as they unveiled a Halo VR demo called Halo Recruit. This means we could hear more about their new developments on Mixed Reality once their VR market expands. Nevertheless, with Sony making new leaps and a newly invigorated Nintendo, Microsoft’s partnership with Samsung might be able to bring new changes in the equation.
