1. Don’t Let Websites Snoop on Your Location:

Most websites collect user data to make browsing experience better. The data collected is inclusive of the device’s location.

However, sharing your location means a higher probability of getting your data compromised. This can be easily disabled in Chrome.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings.

2. Enable Do Not Track:

As mentioned above, any website you browse over internet collects some user information. This information is collected to decide which ads should be displayed on the pages according to your preferences. However, this proves rather harmful than useful most of the times.

Thanks to Google Chrome, which lets you enable its feature called, ‘Do Not Track’ so that you can secure your personal data.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings.
  2. In Advanced Settings locate Privacy and security. Under it search for Do Not Track. Toggle it on.

3. Turn Off Automatic Sync:

Google Chrome lets you sync all the Chrome settings over other devices. This feature syncs your browser history, cookies, applications, wallpapers and passwords with all the devices in use.

However, if you do not wish to have all the data synced on other devices you can easily turn off the sync process.

To do so:

  1. Navigate to Chrome Settings and under People locate Sync.

4. Private Browsing/Incognito mode:

One of the easiest and best options for protecting your privacy is browsing in the private mode. Chrome came up with the concept of private browsing and named it the Incognito mode.

Just open the Chrome browser and click on the drop-down menu located at the top right corner. From the menu, locate New incognito window and click it to open a private window.

5. Block Third-Party Cookies:

Another means to protect your privacy is to block third-party cookies. Many sites may claim that they do not save any of the user’s personal data, however, this is not completely true.

Third party sites if not much, do store a bit of user’s data to promote advertisements. Thus, if you are concerned about your data, it is recommended to turn off the third-party cookies.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Advanced Settings.
  2. Under Privacy and security locate Content Settings.
