QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Historically, labour has used technology as a form of control. we would use pagers and faxes to send out messages telling people what line to take. The key learning from the Obama campaign is to use technology to empower your supporters.” ~ Douglas Alexander
NEW THREAD FEATURE FOR TWITTER
Twitter is all set to introduce a new feature, Thread, which will let you string tweets together.
WHAT IS THE NEW FEATURE?
Twitter’s new tool, Thread that helps create ‘tweetstorms’ is now an official part of the app. The tool enables you to tie your tweets together by tapping on a plus button in the tweet composer box.
As you post a thread, the first tweet will appear in your timeline as usual, although it will now be possible to team it up with two or more tweets from the thread. To view all the tweets in the thread, your followers need to tap on the option “Show This Thread ”.
Requirement for the tool became prominent when the need for long-form discussion rose. There has been a necessity for an official thread feature for years.
WHAT TWITTER HAS TO SAY?
The company mentioned in a blog, “A few weeks ago, we expanded our character count to make it easier for people to fit what they’re thinking into a Tweet. But we know people also may want to serialize a longer story or thought, or provide ongoing commentary on an event or topic. That’s where this update to Threads comes in!”
HOW TO CREATE A THREAD?
To create a thread with the Thread tool, type in your first tweet and tap on plus button from the lower right-hand corner of the tweet composer. Once you hit Plus button, you will get another 280 characters to express your views. You can keep on repeating the process until the thread is complete and once done, hit on Tweet. The thread will be posted then. Moreover, you can also add tweets to the thread later. To do that, you need to tap on “Add Another Tweet” in the thread.
Threads will be rolling out on Android, iOS, and as well the web in the coming weeks.
INSTAGRAM’S HASHTAG FOLLOWING
Instagram introducing the hashtag which will help you follow all posts and stories related to a topic.
WHAT IS THE USE OF THE FEATURE?
Instagram is one of the famous social media platforms which lets you follow friends and others. Now with the new feature, you can follow the stories and post that might interest you by following a hashtag. For example, if you want to Explore on any topic, like FitnessVideos, all you need to do is type #FitnessVideos, you will see all the post and videos related to it, regardless of the person posting them.
Well, the new feature will need smart filtering to avoid obscene content from being circulated by hashtag following. However, the feature will benefit all. Users will be able to see posts beyond their social community.
Last month, Instagram was testing the feature and from now on, it is going to be live. You will now see a Follow button on hashtag pages, where you might have reached by clicking on tags.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When Instagram was asked about how the post is selected to be shown on hashtag page, they said, it selects the best posts on the basis of quality and recency algorithmically. It also gives you the liberty to downvote a post which you don’t wish to see from hashtags. All you need to do is – tap on the drop-down menu located at the top-right corner.
To sieve the good content from spam, Instagram uses automated and manual ways to flag unsuitable content. Instagram’s community operations team will be keeping a close eye on the data to review content 24*7.
The company has been working on this process for a while now. It has also come up with refinement on how it works on hashtag content to ensure hashtag page is secure. Instagram is on the mission to bring the world closer and this feature seems to be doing it.
