Requirement for the tool became prominent when the need for long-form discussion rose. There has been a necessity for an official thread feature for years.

WHAT TWITTER HAS TO SAY?

The company mentioned in a blog, “A few weeks ago, we expanded our character count to make it easier for people to fit what they’re thinking into a Tweet. But we know people also may want to serialize a longer story or thought, or provide ongoing commentary on an event or topic. That’s where this update to Threads comes in!”

THE STORY

Instagram introducing the hashtag which will help you follow all posts and stories related to a topic.

WHAT IS THE USE OF THE FEATURE?

Instagram is one of the famous social media platforms which lets you follow friends and others. Now with the new feature, you can follow the stories and post that might interest you by following a hashtag. Well, the new feature will need smart filtering to avoid obscene content from being circulated by hashtag following. However, the feature will benefit all. Users will be able to see posts beyond their social community.

Last month, Instagram was testing the feature and from now on, it is going to be live. You will now see  a Follow button on hashtag pages, where you might have reached by clicking on tags.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When Instagram was asked about how the post is selected to be shown on hashtag page, they said, it selects the best posts on the basis of quality and recency algorithmically. It also gives you the liberty to downvote a post which you don’t wish to see from hashtags. All you need to do is – tap on the drop-down menu located at the top-right corner.

To sieve the good content from spam, Instagram uses automated and manual ways to flag unsuitable content. Instagram’s community operations team will be keeping a close eye on the data to review content 24*7.

The company has been working on this process for a while now. It has also come up with refinement on how it works on hashtag content to ensure hashtag page is secure. Instagram is on the mission to bring the world closer and this feature seems to be doing it.
