LUKEWARM RESPONSE TO IPHONE X THRASHES SAMSUNG’S MARKET
According to Nikkei Asian Review report, poor sales performance of iPhone X in the current quarter has left Samsung jumbled to find new market for its OLED panels. Samsung is now searching for a buyer amid high competition in the market.
WHY IS SAMSUNG FACING THE HEAT OF APPLE’S LOSS?
The staggering demand of iPhone X led to drastic reduction in production, which was not anticipated by Samsung. Further, Chinese OLED panel makers are escalating production capacity, hence Samsung is facing high competition from rival manufacturers. Potential clients are either going for cheaper LCDs or opting for Chinese OLED panels. Also, there are speculations whether Samsung will maintain its monopoly in the mobile OLED display market for upcoming years or not.
HOW IS IT AFFECTING THE CURRENT MOBILE MARKET?
Despite iPhone X’s sales disappointment, Apple is dominating the smartphone market in terms of revenue collection. While Samsung smartphones are always equipped with cutting-edge technology and give tough competition to the Apple products. It is possible that Apple is trying to reduce its dependence on Samsung, after reports indicated that LG is planning to supply OLED screens for Apple’s upcoming 6.5-inch iPhone later this year.
CAN SAMSUNG REMAIN AHEAD OF APPLE IN MOBILE INDUSTRY?
Recently, Samsung released an Ad that mocked iPhone users. They called iPhone users retrograde fans who blindly followed the brand and highlighted themselves as an inventive brand. Eventually, loss of Apple is directly proportional to the profit of Samsung company as it is the chief supplier of OLED screens. In this era of globalization, everyone is dependent on each other, hence evaluating someone’s success solely based on supply chain is off beam.
BEWARE! LATEST CHROMEBOOK UPDATES COULD ERASE LOCAL DATA
Recently, Google released an optional security update for Chromebook, which in due course wiped all local data from computer.
WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR SECURITY UPDATE IN CHROME?
Chrome OS is considered as one of the most secure desktop operating system. It is equipped with verified booting, programmed system updates and system drive encryption. All of them are responsible for keeping Chromebook protected from cyber-attacks. Most models of Chrome use Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, for producing cryptographic keys liable for protecting local data.
Unfortunately, nothing is entirely safe and secure, when it comes to software and hacking. Same is applicable for some Chromebooks. Recently, security researchers have discovered a bug in some models of Infineon TPM firmware, which allows hackers to possibly attack Chromebook to acquire encrypted data.
WHAT LED TO WHIPPING OF ALL LOCAL DATA?
A bug has been found in some Chromebooks that uses Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which is letting hackers to brute-force into Chromebook to acquire encrypted data. Luckily, the bug can be patched, but this comes at a cost. Evidently, the application of patch erases all local data from Chromebook computer and requires reinstalling everything again. This could be rather troublesome. However, Google has made the patch optional, so if your Chrome doesn’t contain government data, you can avoid the update.
