QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Several technological and political forces have converged, and that has produced a global, Web-enabled playing field that allows for multiple forms of collaboration without regard to geography or distance – or soon, even language. “ ~ Thomas Friedman
AMAZON WEB SERVICES’ REVENUE IS ALL TIME HIGH
Amazon Web Services announced that its quarterly revenue generated by the company is $5.1 billion
WHAT HAS AMAZON WEB SERVICES ACHIEVED?
Amazon is one of the best when it comes to cloud computing. It seems like it going to reach an all new zenith with all time high revenues. AWS announced that it got profit of $5.1 billion yesterday. This means, a gain of 44% as comparison to Q4 of 2017. The total revenue generated for 2017, was $17.4 billion, which is 43% more than 2016.
Moreover, the operating income also got increased. If we talk about Amazon as the whole company, it earned $2.1 billion in the quarter in which AWS (Amazon Web Services) has been the biggest with $1.3 billion to contribute in operating income.
WHAT THE BIG SHOTS AT AWS HAS TO SAY?
Everyone has a question in there, will AWS has a new mile marker now?
Yes, indeed, with the recent success and profit, AWS is now set to reach $20-billion profit benchmark as per CFO Brian Olsavsky. Regardless of the strong competition from Microsoft Azure, IBM, Red Hat and other competitors, AWS was able to sustain and get a raise of 45% in revenues in a year.
Brian Olsavsky deemphasized the thought that Amazon should think of treating AWS as a discrete company which can be a right thing to do on some levels but it could turn out to be a big challenge. Last November, CEO Andy Jassy dissed the idea and supported the point that both the organization should work together and they are getting profits by being together.

UFS 3.0 is developed for hardware such as smartphones, cars, VR, and Chromebook. It has the capability of transferring data with twice the bandwidth than UFS 2.1 standard.
The new Universal Flat Storage standard will enable us to transfer data on an amazing data transfer speeds of up t0 23.2Gbps (11.6Gbps in two lanes).
Moreover, it will reduce the power consumption and will make the flash storage significant and dependable at higher range of temperatures. UFS is designed in such a way for your smartphones that they could match the data transfer speeds of PC SSDs. Samsung is one of the first companies to adopt this technology.
In a press release, the standards group stated: “UFS is a high-performance interface designed for use in applications where power consumption needs to be minimized, including mobile systems such as smartphones and tablets as well as automotive applications. Its high-speed serial interface and optimized protocol enable significant improvements in throughput and system performance.”
WHAT WOULD BE THE BENEFIT FOR SMARTPHONE USERS?
Given the claims, the hardware should become a part of next- generation devices. With the smartphones and their exotic camera capturing 4K and even 8K videos, UFS 3.0 is bound to come into the picture. It will make the data transfer seamless.
However, it depends on smartphone manufacturers, whether they embrace the standard. Well, it might take a few years to make its way to handsets.
