QUOTE OF THE DAY:

“Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we’re too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.” ~ Steven Spielberg

YOUTUBE ROLLS OUT AUTOMATIC CAPTIONS, LIVE CHAT REPLAYS AND MORE

THE STORY

YouTube Live gets three new features including Live Chat Replays.

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES?

YouTube has added three new features to enhance the live streaming services for both viewers and creators. Most notable of the newly added features is the ability to playback a live chat after the live stream ends and the launch of live automatic captions on videos.

Though automatic caption feature was there on YouTube since 2009 but captioning a video in real time is quite complicated. Now, with speech recognition technology, it is possible.

According to YouTube, when professionally provided captions are not available, then it is using its live automatic speech recognition (LASR) technology to serve captions on live streams. YouTube also claimed that LASR captions won’t be perfect but the error rates and latency are close to industry standards. On adding this feature, YouTube has become one of the major platforms to provide real-time captioning.

YouTube will keep on working on improving the latency and accuracy of the captions. Another feature added, is a way to playback a live chat when a video ends, which will make you feel that you are watching a live stream, even if the stream has ended.

From today, YouTube content creators can add a location tag to their mobile live streams and video uploads. With this feature, viewers can explore other content recorded at the same location. Now a location filter is also available on search results page as well.

Super Chat feature is an excellent feature added from a point of view of a fan. If you want to get attention from the content creator, you can use Super Chat feature, your message will be highlighted in a chat stream. It basically helps creators and audience to connect in real time.

WHEN WILL BE THE FEATURES AVAILABLE?

The live automatic caption feature will roll out in upcoming weeks. Location Tag feature will be available starting today. Super Chat feature is not new but till now, it has not made its way to iOS. But now, from today, it will be available for iOS as well.
