AMAZON GOING TO BLOCK AUSSIE SHOPPERS

THE STORY

The e-commerce giant “Amazon” has revealed that they are averting shipping to Australians’ addresses from 1st of July 2018.

WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT

Amazon has disclosed that they are blocking Australians and mentioned that 1st July onwards, the e-commerce giant is going to redirect all the customers from its international Amazon website to amazon.com.au, which will let the users buy stuff sold by Amazon US on the worldwide store.

The e-commerce giant is going to make these amendments due to the changes in country’s goods and services tax (GST). As after the changes, overseas retailers will now have to pay GST on items under AU$1,000.

In fact, all the foreign suppliers along with the electronic distribution platform, re- deliverers dealers and suppliers like eBay and Amazon, will be answerable for goods and services tax on low-value imported goods sold to an Australian customer. However, the foreign suppliers which can make over AU$75,000 sales annually in Australia then they need to get listed with the ATO (Australian Taxation Office). The registration with the ATO will help to collect

GST on all online sold items.

WHAT COMPANY HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS?

The e-commerce giant has shared this in a written statement; “While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, from 1 July we will be redirecting Australian customers from our international Amazon sites to amazon.com.au where you can shop for products sold by Amazon US on the new Amazon Global Store, available today,”.

“We have taken this step to provide our customers with continued access to international selection and allow us to remain compliant with the law which requires us to collect and remit GST on products sold on Amazon sites that are shipped from overseas.”

WILL AUSTRALIAN SHOPPERS BE DEPRIVED OF AMAZON?

After redirecting the Australian shoppers from Amazon international website to amazon.com.au, they will be able to access over sixty million items from Amazon and the international third-party vendors. Amazon already opened a global store that will let the users access additional four million products that were earlier accessible only on Amazon American website. Although, the products available to Australians will be a fraction of what Amazon offers to all. Moreover, Amazon made an announcement of opening a new fulfilment center in late 2018.

The new 43k sq. meter service store in the Goodman Centenary Distribution Centre in Moorebank, in New South Wales location, Sydney Australia. Apart from the new one, Amazon has one more facility, located in Dandenong South, Victoria.

PIXEL GETTING READY FOR THE COMPETITION

THE STORY

Google joined hands with iPhone’s manufacturer to build Pixel 3 and 3XL.

WHAT IS GOOGLE’S STRATEGY?

As Google joined the race only a few years back, it has not gained as much as popularity as its rivals like Apple and Samsung. After two generations of smartphones, it looks like Google is finally focusing on competing with others. With the speculations of a new manufacturer for Pixel 3 and 3 XL, it appears Google is focusing on hardware along with software.

Being a software company, it is easy and cost-effective for Google to design a software as compared to others. Earlier for the hardware part, it used to rely on OEMs. However, the company now has its partners who already have the infrastructure in place to produce products economically.

WHAT IS THE REASON BEHIND IT?

According to the sources, this time Foxconn is going to manufacture Pixel 3 and 3 XL but the design belongs to all Google. This time the tech giant is going to handle the design as well as manufacturing process just like its rival Apple. So, this would be the first time when Google is creating a smartphone that is truly its own, just like its other products such as Pixelbook. Pixelbook is manufactured by Google’s manufacturing partners instead of OEMS.

With all of this, we can expect that Google’s third gen smartphone will be a flagship smartphone, rather than a specimen showcasing latest version of Android.

According to the sources, the Pixel 3 XL will be an edge to edge display which has a notch at the top. In fact, the notch is going to be larger than the Apple’s iPhone X. Wherein Pixel 3 will have a regular symmetrical appearance phone that has a bigger bezel. The tech giant has plans to roll out the device in October, which is nearly a month  when Apple releases its new iPhone.
