GOOGLE BRINGS ARCORE TECHNOLOGY TO CHINA

THE STORY

Google has joined hands with Xiaomi to bring its ARCore technology to China.
WILL GOOGLE BOW BEFORE THE DRAGON?

As we all know most Google’s core services are blocked in China due to censorship. Google is putting in all efforts to return and capture the biggest market. To begin with, it has started connecting with three major Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei to bring its Augmented Reality (AR) service to the country.

As distribution of an app comes as a challenge because Google Play is restricted in China. Google had to team up with major third-party app stores so that it can reach Chinese consumers.

Out of these three, Xiaomi is the first one to release ARCore apps through its app store. The technology will be available with Xiaomi’s Mix 2S devices.

WHY WAS IT BANNED IN THE FIRST PLACE?

The reason of banning Google’s service in China is denial of Google to share Big Data with Chinese government. As Google has access to user data, Chinese government wanted Google to share this information with them, to keep a watch on data transmission. But since it is against their users’ privacy Google denied due to which it was blocked from world’s biggest market.

WHAT MAKES ARCORE WORK IN CHINA?

ARCore app works on the device itself without sharing any data on the cloud, this means apps once downloaded on the phone has nothing to do with the internet. Therefore, China’s censorship cannot interrupt it.

APPLE ADDING NEW FEATURES TO NFC CHIP

THE STORY

iOS 12 will expand NFC capabilities to unlock doors and cars.

WHAT IS THE NFC CHIP AND HOW DOES IT HELP USERS?

The NFC (near-field communication) chip was introduced for the first time with iPhone 6. It allows contactless information exchange and makes it possible for the users to use Apple Pay to pay for purchases they make at the store by holding their phone close to a compatible credit card reader.

WHY NFC TO UNLOCK THE DOORS?

When we can unlock smart locks using Bluetooth then why NFC? This is a big question here. With the rise in number of cyber-attacks, Bluetooth connections are becoming vulnerable. But with NFC this weakness can be overcome as NFC is more secure and the sensitive data is stored on a chip that detaches the contents from the operating systems.

WHAT’S THERE IN THE FUTURE?

With iOS 12 update, Apple is planning to add new capabilities to NFC. This means in near future not only will NFC be used to make contactless payment, but it will also be used to unlock doors and cars.

To know more about what NFC chips can do, check out the updates on WWDC in the coming week.
