GOOGLE LAUNCHES A NEW PODCAST APPLICATION FOR ANDROID WITH RECOMMENDATION ALGORITHM
THE STORY: Google has recently introduced its own Podcast app, which is a standalone app exclusively for Android operating system. What makes this app different from other podcast applications is Google’s recommendation algorithm that would help users to connect to their favorite types of content.
WHAT’S THE SERVICE ALL ABOUT?
Google Podcasts is a standalone Android application to help users alleviate their listening habits. Although, Android had been featured with podcast apps through various third-party applications and even Google Play. However, Google Podcasts is going to be one of its kind as it would be geared with Google’s recommendation algorithm. This system would be smart enough to help users connect to the content which they like the most. With Google Podcasts, the company expects to hit the estimated target of millions of new app users.
According to Zack Reneau-Wedeen, product manager, “There’s still tons of room for growth when it comes to podcast listening. Creating a native first-party Android app for podcasts could as much as double worldwide listenership of podcasts overall”.
HOW WILL IT IMPROVE YOUR PODCASTING EXPERIENCE?
Unlike other conventional podcast applications, Google Podcasts would be integrated with Google Assistant that empowers you to play the app anywhere you’ve got it enabled. Google would be syncing your places within a podcast across all of its products. This would help you resume your playlist from where you had left it. For example, if you were listening something on the way to office, you can resume the playlist while you’re on the same way going home. Incredible! Isn’t it?
When it comes to its interface, you would find Google Podcasts as any typical podcast application that lets you search new podcasts, play and download them. As far as the collection is considered, Google said that there would be around two million podcasts available including all of the ones you’ve heard of. As soon as you launch the app, a section with the name of “For You” would enlist all of your subscribed podcasts and the one’s you’ve been listening to but haven’t completed along with your downloaded episodes.
Google, with time, plans to feature more benefits to Google Podcasts users that include Artificial Intelligence. Here, one of such features would add closed captions to your podcast, letting you read as you listen. This feature would do all the goods to people who have hearing impairment or the people who commute through a noisy environment and don’t get what they are listening. It may also help for the people who’re not a native speaker of the language they’re listening to.
