WALMART AND MICROSOFT ENTER PARTNERSHIP TO TAKE ON AMAZON
Multinational retail giant Walmart, has entered a strategic partnership with tech giant Microsoft to collaborate and take on rivals Amazon.
WHAT IS THIS TEAM UP ALL ABOUT?
In order to achieve a digital transformation, retail big shot Walmart has entered a partnership with Microsoft. It needs to be kept in mind that both these companies have created benchmark success in their respective fields. So, with the target set on Amazon, this tentatively 5-year lasting partnership is sure to be interesting. The CEO of both the companies commented on this collaboration.
Doug McMillon, Walmart CEO, said “Walmart’s commitment to technology is centered around creating incredibly convenient ways for customers to shop and empowering associates to do their best work.” Similarly, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft said, “The world’s leading companies run on our cloud, and I’m thrilled to partner with Walmart to accelerate their digital transformation with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. ”
WHAT SERVICES DOES WALMART NEED FROM MICROSOFT TO TAKE ON AMAZON?
While Walmart already uses many of Microsoft’s services, it aims to gain more knowledge and application of ML, AI and create its unique data platform. This shall be made possible by the extensive use of Microsoft Azure. (Microsoft’s cloud computing service) Karen Garrette, who is Microsoft’s worldwide lead for retail strategy has said, “For retailers like Walmart, the cloud has totally changed the game in enabling them to try new things and spin them up if they work or move on if they don’t.”
She also said, “The cloud is now the key to their ability to bring huge volumes of data together at speeds they never could imagine before—and it’s essential for leading companies like Walmart to seize the opportunity at this particular point in time to do this.” With targets set, it looks like Amazon’s days as number 1 in online retail are sure numbered.
SAMSUNG’S FOLDABLE PHONE SOON TO BECOME REALITY
Samsung to soon launch its unique foldable phone which shall have a foldable battery and secondary display.
IS THE FOLDABLE PHONE SOON TO BECOME A REALITY?
In early 2019, Samsung may just launch to the public its foldable phone. Codename ‘Winner’, this device is eagerly awaited by the public. To make things even more interesting, Samsung claims to have found an innovative way of making highly charged batteries foldable! While this in itself is a huge achievement, the foldable phone shall have a 7-inch display screen and a secondary display. Reports claim that while this may make the device almost a tablet, the foldability shall make it smaller in size and easier to carry.
WHY IS THERE NOT MUCH INFORMATION REGARDING THIS DEVICE?
Samsung on its end has kept its cards close to its heart and dropped very few hints about the upcoming device. Samsung CEO DJ Koh, reportedly assured the public that they were actually developing a foldable device and that it wasn’t a hoax. “I need complete confidence that we’re delivering the best user experience when we’re launching a new category,” he said in a recent interview with the press. While we wait along with the rest of the public for the ‘Winner’ with bated breaths, it’s speculated price tag has us on the back foot. Reports claim that it shall be priced a whooping US $1,500 at the time of launch. Guess innovation does come with a steep price tag!
