GOOGLE SHUTS ITS “SMART REPLY” APP FOR ANDROID

THE STORY

Google’s experiment with “Reply App” that sends smart responses is winding down on Android Phones.

WHAT IS SMART REPLY APP?

Developed by Google’s Area 120, the app is aimed to give intelligent replies on multiple chat apps such as Slack, Hangout, and Messenger. However, the company just notified that it was just an experiment with the app, which has just ended now.

WHY GOOGLE IS KILLING IT?

Being able to predict what you are going to say is an incredible functionality any product or service could have. But what if it doesn’t work in the way it should? What if it gives silly and dumb replies?

Since it’s a beta version, based on numerous user feedbacks, Google found that the smart replies were given by “Reply” were often boring, were leaned towards affirmative answers, most of the time parroted the noun from the message and also tend to offer replies which are regardless of content.

WHAT COMPANY HAS TO SAY?

According to news reports, when Google was asked about the shutting down. Company informed Reply users via mail saying, that “Reply App was just an experiment, that has ended, while it might still work for the next few months, you may encounter bugs, or see that the suggestions aren’t as good, and ” If you are engaged in a serious thread with your boss, as an example, you might not want to rely on Reply to get you by.”

The company exactly didn’t mention whether their “experiment” was successful or not, but they are planning to take the “Reply App” into consideration again and incorporate certain improvements, which will be rolling out with other Google products.
