Embed Fonts in a Microsoft Word Document

Using Microsoft Word all the time? Are you not happy with the font that you are using? Looking for customizing fonts, don’t know how to? Well, to use a custom font which means using any other fonts than inbuilt fonts of Microsoft Word in your doc, then you should know how to embed the fonts on to the document. As you want the document to look the way you expected.

Why do you want to embed the font, you ask? The reason is if you ever opened the MS word document with a custom font, which is not embedded onto it, then you should know MS Word displays the content in the default font.

It could make your document look less presentable and messy as well. That’s why it is necessary to embed the font in your MS Word document so that the customization done could be retained as it is supposed to.

One of the downsides of embedding fonts is that they make document size larger than the than one with no embedded font, but if you want a custom font, then it is what it is, right?

Step 1: Launch Microsoft Word and go to the document in which you want to embed a font.

Step 2: Go to the “File” menu.

Step 3:  From the File menu sidebar, navigate to Options.

Step 4: From the Options Window, go to Save option.

Step 5: On the Save window, from the right-hand side of the window under “Preserve Fidelity when sharing this document,” locate Embed Fonts in the file. Put a checkmark beside the option.

Note: Once you put a checkmark on Embed Fonts in the file, two greyed out options will be available. Put a checkmark besides Embed only the characters used in the document.

Choosing this option means that it will only embed a font used in the specific document. Otherwise, Word will apply the “embed all fonts” in your system in the doc file, regardless they are used or not.

Another option “Do not embed common system fonts” should not be touched and left as it is. By default, there is a checkmark beside it.  This option decreases the size of your Word document as it will not embed system fonts.

Step 6:  Once done, click OK to save the changes made to the settings.

In this way, you can embed fonts in an MS Word Doc file. So, follow the steps and customize the font size of your document as you like. Also, the document will look just like the way you want to others.
