AWS UNVEILS BACKUP SERVICE FOR CLOUD & ON-PREMISES
THE STORY: The cloud giant is all set with its new offering, AWS Backup– a fully-managed, centralized service for cloud & on-premises workloads.
WHAT IS AWS?
AWS (Amazon Web Services) has been the world’s most comprehensive cloud platform offering more than 165 featured services for storage, compute, networking, databases, analytics, robotics, artificial intelligence, IoT, security, hybrid, VR, AR and much more.
WHAT IS AWS BACKUP SERVICE?
AWS Backup service is introduced to help people on the platform to backup & manage their data from ‘all the AWS Services & their on-premises apps’ at one place. Users have to simply define their various backup policies along with respective retention periods, to get the ability to move their data to cold storage.
“As the cloud has become the default choice for customers of all sizes, it has attracted two distinct types of builders,” says Bill Vass, AWS’s VP of Storage, Automation, and Management Services.
“Some are tinkerers who want to tweak and fine-tune the full range of AWS services into a desired architecture, and other builders are drawn to the same breadth and depth of functionality in AWS but are willing to trade some of the service granularity to start at a higher abstraction layer, so they can build even faster. We designed AWS Backup for this second type of builder who has told us that they want one place to go for backups versus having to do it across multiple, individual services.”, he further added.

HOW TO USE THE NEW AWS BACKUP?
To get started with the new service, open AWS Backup Console & tap ‘Create Backup Plan’ > click on ‘Build a new plan’ button > and begin by giving it a Name. Define the lifecycle period and choose ‘Default’ vault. Tag the backup plan & click on ‘Create plan’ option.

G SUITE SERVICES GETS 20% PRICE HIKE
THE STORY: For the first time ever, Google is raising prices for ‘Basic’ and ‘Business’ versions of its G Suite apps.
WHAT ARE G SUITE APPS?
G Suite is simply a package of web applications such as Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Hangouts, Drive, Plus and more, to provide users with powerful functionalities such as professional email, online storage, ability to share spreadsheets, documents, video conferencing, secure team messaging and much more.
WHY GOOGLE IS DOING THIS?
According to Google’s recent blog post, G Suite has grown tremendously over the years, it has emerged to provide more functionalities, features and tools to help organizations and individuals to effectively manage their work. Lately, the company also focused on applying Machine Learning technology to increase productivity of its package. Like, Smart Compose in Gmail, Smart Reply in Hangouts. While the only thing that hasn’t change is its ‘Pricing’. So, they introduced two incremental list price updates to reflect this value!
The company says that “it’s been aggressive about adding new apps, features, and benefits (such as increased storage) over the years, so the suite will still offer plenty of value even at the new pricing. In fact, the company created an infographic showing how G Suite has grown.”
WHAT ARE THE NEW PRICING MODELS?
Until now, G Suite ‘Basic’ version was available for $5 per month, now it will be for $6. G Suite ‘Professional’ version will see an increase from $10 to $12. The enterprise version will remain the same.
The new pricing models will be commenced from April 2, 2019!
