THE STORY

Tweetbot removes Activity and Stats tab, Push notifications and more ahead Twitter’s API change

WHAT ARE THE PLANS?

Tomorrow Twitter API is going to be different but the outcome has been seen earlier than the changes. Tapbots released an update for Tweetbot for iOS on Wednesday. Followed by the ramifications, Tweetbot has eliminated a lot of remarkable features, including removal of the Apple Watch app.

Tapbots wrote in Tweetbot release notes on App Store, “on August 16th Twitter will disable parts of their public interface that we use in Tweetbot. Because Twitter has chosen not to provide alternatives to these interfaces we have been forced to disable or degrade certain features. We are sorry about this, but unfortunately, this is totally out of our control.”

All of this has been done to take better control of how Twitter’s services are used by third-party developers. Twitter earlier announced that it will discontinue Site Streams, User Streams and other application programming interfaces to devise for the ingress of the new Account Activity API & other products.

Twitter wants its clients to pay for Premium or Enterprise accounts to get certain features, and timeline streaming

WHAT WILL BE THE EFFECT?

These changes imply that Tweebot’s timeline streaming no longer works. This means that the timelines will refresh in every 1-2 minutes. So now people will not be able to check new tweets in real time. So if you do the aftermath, this means push notifications for Mentions and DMs will reach you after a few minutes. Besides push notifications for Follows, Likes, Quotes, and Retweets have been deactivated completely. Stats tabs & Tweetbot’s Activity have also been disabled.

WHAT OTHER COMPANIES WILL GET AFFECTED?

Tweetings, Twitterific, and others along with Tweetbot will get affected by the upcoming changes in Twitter API. The change is pending since April but as it was not enough time to prepare, the time was extended to August 16.
