Yes, you heard it right! Facebook owned WhatsApp, the popular messaging application is going through a rough day.
Probably Google will be quite happy after hearing this news! We all know why!
WhatsApp was down for about an hour, and users’ frustrations was quite apparent on Twitter. However, only some areas of the United States were majorly hit. Previously it had been limited mainly to the East Coast. However, it was more of a ‘unlucky day’ for some rather than complete breakdown.
A spokesperson immediately informed “WhatsApp is aware of the issue and working to fix it as soon as possible”. There are some inside rumors popping too that apparently, someone at WhatsApp headquarters tripped over the server’s electrical cord. Quite dramatic, eh?
The good news is, WhatsApp service was restored around 7PM ET / 4PM PT. The company’s support team shared the following statement with users:
“Sorry for the inconvenience. We were experiencing a temporary outage. Our service is now restored. We appreciate your patience.”
WhatsApp’s is used by more than 1.2 billion people around the world and is a key tool for communications and commerce across the globe. The service was acquired by Facebook in 2014 for $19 billion.
Maybe this is the reason why this news spread like fire within just one hour of its occurring as the app is hugely popular amongst users.
