HomePod Might Bring Native Phone Call Support

Finally, HomePod gets some updates and brings new features for Siri.

What’s Included in HomePod OS 12.0 Beta?

Supposedly, the beta version of the HomePod includes phone call features i.e. it will allow users to make phone calls using HomePod, Find My iPhone Siri command, and support for multiple timers.

How will the New Feature Work?

Currently, HomePod cannot access the contact book, therefore to make calls user needs to switch from iPhone to the audio output to HomePod. Similarly, to receive calls user needs to accept it on the iPhone first and then manually route the audio to HomePod.

But, with the new iOS 12 based software, iPhone will merely act as the cellular connection provided. Whereas HomePod will be able to handle the call on its own. This means users will no longer have to switch from iPhone to HomePod as the new feature will allow to place and receive calls through the speaker.

Other Features Included in Home App

Besides, calling and Find My iPhone feature the Home app includes Spanish language support, a Wi-Fi button. Tapping the button will connect HomePod to the same Wi-fi network to which the iPhone is paired. Earlier, to make it work users had to reset HomePod, which is no longer the case now.

In addition to this, HomePod now brings multiple timer features to allow users to run more than one timer simultaneously.

When will the Latest OS be released?

Hopefully, users will be able to avail the new features by September/October, which is around the same time when Apple will release iOS 12, macOS Mojave, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12.
