AMAZON PRIME MAKES AN ENTRY ON APPLE TV
Amazon gets a much-needed win by the arrival of its streaming service on Apple TV.
WHY IS IT A WIN?
In the mid of the cold war between Google and Amazon’s streaming service, Amazon Prime manages to get Apple TV. The news is kinda exhilarating considering the ongoing battle with Google. Tim Cook announced the arrival earlier this year and it was all set to appear on tvOS Store in this summer. However, it got delayed. Amazon doesn’t have good relations with Apple as well. Back in 2015, there was dispute between them regarding e-books and commissions related to the items sold on Amazon iOS app. Since then, Amazon has not sold Apple TV. Although, the arrival of Amazon’s Prime on Apple TV has made it clear that they have made peace past their differences. It is hoped that Amazon and Google also come to an agreement and end the prolonged tug of war.
WHAT CAN AMAZON PRIME DO FOR YOU?
After downloading the app, you can enjoy the shows like Man in the High Castle. It is compatible to Apple TV with 3rd gen or later. The app is available in USA and Canada but still not in UK. You can find it in tvOS store by typing Amazon Shopping. Once you are there, scroll until you see “more by this developers” Now you can scroll and watch your favorite videos, shows and more, available on Amazon Prime. With the arrival of Amazon Prime on Apple TV, Amazon may consider selling Apple TVs on Amazon.
WALMART HAS A NEW NAME?
Walmart Stores will no longer have “Stores” in its name.
WHY THE CHANGE?
When Walmart was founded in 1962, it was originally named as Walmart Inc. However, later on the name got change to Wal-mart Stores Inc. Since then, it has been expanded the business under the name Walmart Stores along with other chains like Sam’s Club in the US and other banners in other countries.
After 47 years, Walmart is changing its name again. Soon,it will be Walmart Inc. The changes will come in effect on February 1st. The changed name would now match with its web address as well. The company wants to show that it agrees that e commerce is very important given the trend. No further information about the corporate revenues have been shared so far. The changes shows the growing interest of the company in e commerce.
Amidst all the changes, the stock ticker “WMT” will appear by the same name on New York Stock Exchange.
CEO Doug McMillon stated, “he felt the name change was needed to be “consistent with the idea that you can shop us however you like as a customer. Our customers know us as Walmart and today they shop with us not only in our stores but online and with our app as well.”
DOES THE CHANGE INDICATE SOMETHING?
The acquisition of Jet.com shows that Walmart focus has been shifted to e commerce. Walmart is not planning to stop on this. It looks like it has couple of to dos. It has been expanding the brands list and now it has ModCloth and Bonobos in its cart. Well, there is more to it. Not only they want to work on integrating stores and ecommerce to another extent but also want to improve their mobile app and other things.
McMillion also informed that the company would build new headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.
