QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Video games are bad for you? That’s what they said about rock n roll.” ~ Shigeru Miyamoto (Co-Representative Director, Nintendo)
DOOM WILL NOW GET A VR ADAPTATION
Bethesda studios confirm a new ‘Doom’ game for Playstation VR and HTC Vive..
WHY THIS IS SPECIAL?
Back in the days when even high definition graphics were unheard of, the 1993 first-person horror/shooter Doom, blew gamers apart. The original game is considered to be highly influential to video game industry. Although there were several sequels released, none of them could match the craze and nostalgia that permeated the original release.
Original Doom’s graphics were far from being 3D. Still gamers often wondered what it would be like to have a hands-on experience in virtual reality. Finally, to gamers’ delight, Bethesda studios have announced a new VR-only game, titled Doom VFR. And what makes it even better, is the involvement of id Software, which was the team behind the original release in the 90’s.
WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?
The release date for the new game hasn’t yet been teased by Bethesda Studios, but we can safely assume it to be later this year. Bethesda also teased a prototype version of the new game at E3 2017, that looks pretty similar to Doom 3. However being the prototype, we’re sure that it will be a brand new title and doesn’t use elements from older titles. And since id Software is heading design and production, we can be rest assured about a wholesome ‘Doom’ experience.
XBOX ONE ADDS ORIGINAL XBOX GAMES TO LIBRARY
After being already compatible with Xbox 360 games, Microsoft surprises gamers with original Xbox library.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Backward compatibility in newer gaming consoles is a much sought after feature among gamers worldwide. It allows them to play old games on new consoles and certainly increases nostalgia and replayability. While Microsoft have already added this feature for games released on XBox 360, it seems they also had huge demand for titles that were released with the original Xbox.
The new feature has already been explained on the official site of XBox One with an announcement that says, “The future of gaming does not forget its past. Play hundreds of Xbox 360 games and coming soon for the first time, classic Original Xbox games on Xbox One. Experience game franchises across generations and enjoy the titles you own and love at no additional cost. For Xbox 360 games, keep your game saves, add-ons, achievements, and Gamerscore. And with Xbox Live Gold, play multiplayer games with friends across Xbox One and Xbox 360. Experience the greatest games lineup across generations— exclusively on Xbox One.”
WHY DID THEY DO IT?
As we’ve already discussed, backwards compatibility in newer consoles is becoming quite a rage. Hence, any new generation console that cannot play older games, will certainly face a lot of heat from gamers and store owners. The recently launched Nintendo Switch already does this and provides a library as vast as the ocean. It supports all previous titles released across various Nintendo consoles in the past including, NES, SNES, Gamecube and Wii. And because their arch rivals Sony are also doing the same, Microsoft couldn’t dream of annoying gamers any further.
WHAT XBOX GAMES ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE?
The first Xbox title for new-gen console was announced to be ‘Crimson Skies’, which was a well received multiplayer title during its original release. However we can expect more titles to arrive soon and according to XBox chief Phil Spencer ‘Will look and play better’ on XBox One.
