AMAZON ANNOUNCES AWS SECRETS MANAGER
Amazon Web Services announced a new service that could reduce the cloud platform users stress concerning security.
WHAT IS AWS SECRETS MANAGER?
Amazon Web Services publicized a new service which could prove as a big help to cloud platform users as it will bring a sense of security. Let’s know how! The service is called as AWS Secrets Manager. It will let developers programmatically put the credentials which are needed to be placed in their applications, without setting them as environment variables or writing them into the source code itself.
The solution has been suggested as leaked credentials written into the source code is said to be one of the biggest security risks in front of cloud platform customers.
With the Secret Manager, customers will be able to eliminate the probability of leaked credentials by replacing it with a small function that fetches the correct credentials when it’s run for database access.
WHAT ALL CAN IT DO?
Along with eliminating the risk of leaked credentials, AWS Secrets Manager, it works with third-party API keys as well such as provided by Twitter and others. The service is also capable of handling automatic rotation of those security credentials.
This step is a part of Amazon’s concurrent agenda to provide services that are needed to secure themselves and their applications from the rapidly originating threats.
WHAT ARE THE OTHER SERVICES?
Furthermore, AWS has also announced that it has come up with a new Firewall Manager which is capable to centrally control settings for the AWS Web Application Firewall across various accounts. The company has also released an update for AWS Config Rules service, which will let cloud platform’s customers control different compliance rules for their configurations over various accounts.
AWS also announced a Private Certificate Authority, a feature which is added to security certificate management service. With the feature, instead of deploying the infrastructure, the companies that need to control the authority generating their security certificates, they can use AWS.
