MICROSOFT SHUTS DOWN GROOVE MUSIC AND ASKS USERS TO SWITCH TO SPOTIFY
Microsoft music app, Groove has failed to survive the market storm therefore, Microsoft has admitted defeat and asked users to move to Spotify.
WHY IS MICROSOFT LEAVING THE COMPETITION?
Microsoft introduced Groove Music in 2012 as Xbox Music and later introduced it on Windows 8 and other platforms. Spotify was one of the leading music streaming app at that time. Groove Music tried to match the competition but failed to get much paid subscribers. So finally, it has decided to throw the towel in. However, the app will be available for Windows and Xbox for local and Onedrive-stored music and users will miss out some of the functions like Radio, Explore, Recommended, Music video playback and Store purchases of music.
WHEN AND HOW CAN YOU MOVE TO SPOTIFY?
Microsoft has announced that after 31st December 2017, it will not offer the option to stream, purchase, and download music. As the shutdown was uncalled for, Microsoft is helping users to switch to a safe zone. If anyone has a subscription, from 31st December, the refund will be issued on the prorated basis.
As far as the switching is concerned, Microsoft will release an update next week, which will help users to transfer all the playlist and songs collection safely to Spotify account. Once your Windows has this update installed, you need to open Groove Music app and you will get a pop-up to move to Spotify. You need to login/sign in to Spotify and it will prompt you to move your music to Spotify to get the things done.
FACEBOOK’S SAFETY CHECK PAGE BECAME HOST FOR HOAX AND SCAMMERS POST LAS VEGAS SHOOTING
Facebook’s safety check page misused yet again after the Las Vegas shooting incident.
TECHNOLOGY TAKEN OVER BY TROLLS AGAIN?
Sunday, the 1st of October 2017 was witnessed as a terrifying day as a man killed several people in open fire in Las Vegas. It was a tragic incident where many people lost their loved ones and hundreds of people were injured. However, people around the world used this incident to do easy earning instead of showing sympathy, they used Facebook’s Safety Check Page as a medium.
Safety Check Page was introduced by Facebook to check the status of your loved ones to know their well-being. If you are at a place hit by natural disaster, the Facebook app will prompt asking if you are okay, mark yourself as safe, the system will add a post to your News Feed automatically.
So, with this incident, the Facebook Safety Check page for the deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas highlighted a video, wherein a request was made to make donations to a Bitcoin wallet, Moreover, there were photos from the American Association for Nude Recreation and a story that delineated the shooter as a “Trump-hating Rachel Maddow fan.”
WHAT IS FACEBOOK DOING ABOUT IT?
It is not the first time, Facebook’s feature Security Check Page has been misused. Earlier, as well, the page was used to terrify people that a bomb had trembled Central Bangkok which turned out to be a firecracker, only has a little more intensity.
To improve and help the users in distress, Facebook has introduced some changes to Safety Check and it is now called as the crisis response hub, which has Community Help,Safety Check, fundraising tools, and more. Although, people are still misusing the page, When asked, Facebook commented, “Our Global Security Operations Center spotted the post this morning and removed it. However, its removal was delayed by a few minutes, allowing it to be screen captured and circulated online. We are working to fix the issue that allowed this to happen in the first place and deeply regret the confusion this caused.”
So Facebook is working on the current issue and hopefully, it will succeed in stopping the misuse of this feature and therefore, will stop the wildfire and false speculations.
