YouTube brings its virtual reality app to oculus go headset.

WHAT IS YOUTUBE VR APP?

YouTube VR is a standalone app, announced at Oculus Connect 5th event in September. It brings largest library of VR content on the web. Besides, this it is designed to give immersive VR experience to users as it supports standard 2D videos, 360 and 3D 360-degree content. To make VR audio more immersive, YouTube is now offering the ability to add “headlocked” audio to their VR videos. Even more, users can also use casting option to project what they see on mobiles and TVs.

The app is compatible with all leading VR headset including Daydream, Samsung Gear VR, PlayStation VR and HTC Vive.

INTEL ANNOUNCES INTEL® XMM™ 81650 5G MODEM

THE STORY

Intel announces multimode modem that will support new standard for 5G.

WHAT’S NEW?

The new multimode modem is optimized to provide 5G connectivity to devices like broadband access gateways, PCs and smartphones. Its launch is accelerated as it will now launch by second half of 2019. Moreover, the XMM 81650 5G modem will support peak speeds of up to 6Gbps. This means it will be three to six times faster as compared to latest LTE modems.

WHAT IS SUPPORTS?

The new modem will support new 5G NR standards, including standalone and non-standalone modes, as well as 4G, 3G and 2G in a single chipset.

WHY IT MATTERS?

Even with single chipset the modem will allow device manufactures to design smaller and more effective devices. Besides, the modem offers advanced technology required to support new millimeter wave spectrum, sub 6 GHz 5G NR support and download speed of up to 6 Gbps.

WHEN WILL IT BE LAUNCHED?

Intel XMM 8160 5G modem is expected to ship by second half of 2019. However, commercial devices using Intel XMM 8160 5G modem are expected to be available by first half of 2020.
